Is it possible to be a leader?

Posted: March 9, 2011 in Physchology

“Nobody is perfect.” We hear that from almost everyone, we see that everywhere; maybe we have thought so for many times. What do you think? Do you think are there ways to be perfect?

I believe also that “nobody is perfect.”, but I also believe that “everyone can feel him/herself  perfect.” But how? A person, as it is so called “person”, “human-being”, not “a machine”, can make faults, give wrong decisions, can have problems, can’t solve those… And this non-mechanic person can feel fuzzy and confused. At that time, he/she can’t concencrate on his/her strenghts. All he/she can think about is the problems, weaknesses etc..

But, what about our strenghts? We all have strenghts. What are those strenghts? Where are they hidden? Why don’t we know how to use them and to focus on them?

A social ecologist Peter Ferdinand Drucker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Drucker) once said “The task of leadership is to create an alignment of strengths in ways that make the system’s weakness irrelevant.”

Yes, becoming a leader is a difficult task. Can everyone be a leader? Leadership is a talent that comes from inside us. As Peter Drucker emphasized, one should first be aware of his/her strenghts and focus on them and use them efficiently. Like everyone else, all the leaders have weaknesses in some ways, however, they can still be a “leader” , they can manipulate the others’ thoughts, they give a route for them sometimes… Why? Because they have an aim, they need to have an aim, they need to serve for their own and also others’ needs. Here, the most important thing to understand is the “need”, and then awareness of one’s strenghts..

In such a way of life, everything will be not perfect, but nearly perfect…

Isn’t this what we’re searching for? ….

interesting question…I do not have an answer, but an idea. Perhaps we need to start with the end in mind…how do you define perfect?

I know we talked in this topic much but it is important to mention that it is very important what the strengths and weaknesses are talked about on. If we want to be a leader in management for example and your primary strength is to write very well, it may not be very helpful in that management path. But sure if helps you to be a good writer :)

nice essay…my personal opinion about it, i can say, is that “nobody is perfect” quotation is mostly agreeable. a man of wisdom says “your partner may not be perfect and neither may you be. even so, the question is, are you a perfect match for each other?” here comes out the idea of everyone’s own perfectness. to talk about the leader, i’m like-minded with being a leader and still making mistakes. everyone has the right to do mistakes, they are kind of the path to find the right way. nevertheless, a good leader is still found admirable and rewarding by his followers also after his mistakes. a perfect leader? i haven’t met any :)

Managers do things right; leaders do the right thing. This is the primary difference between a good manager and a good leader. :)
